As a social media marketer, finding and repurposing “call-to-action” (CTA) moments—like “subscribe to the channel” or “link in bio”—from lengthy interviews is a smart way to boost engagement across TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. Here’s how you can efficiently pinpoint, cut, caption, and export these high-value moments using DaVinci Resolve’s transcription, marker, and audio-search tools.

Step-by-Step: Auto-Detect and Extract CTA Clips in DaVinci Resolve

1. Import and Prep Your Interview Footage

  • Open DaVinci Resolve and either create a new project or open an existing one.
  • Drag your long-form interview video into the Media Pool.
  • Add your video to a new timeline by right-clicking and selecting "Create New Timeline Using Selected Clips".

2. Automatically Transcribe the Interview

  • Go to the Cut or Edit page.
  • Open the Transcribe Audio panel (generally in the right-side Inspector or audio track menu).
  • Select the clip and click “Transcribe.” Wait for Resolve to process the audio—this can take a few minutes for longer videos.

3. Search for CTA Keywords

  • Use the search bar at the top of the Transcription panel.
  • Type common CTAs like:
    • “subscribe”
    • “like and share”
    • “link in bio”
    • “follow us”
    • “check the description”
  • All instances of these phrases will be highlighted in the transcript.

4. Mark and Extract CTA Moments

  • Click each search result in the transcript—DaVinci jumps to that exact moment on the timeline.
  • Add a marker: Press
    M
or right-click on the playhead and choose “Add Marker.” (Color-code your CTA markers for visual clarity.)
  • Trim In/Out points around each CTA moment, ideally capturing a few seconds before and after the phrase for context.
  • Option 1: Split (Blade) and drag each CTA segment to a new track or timeline.
  • Option 2: In the Media Pool, right-click the timeline and select "Create Subclip" for each section.

5. Batch Caption and Format for Social Platforms

  • On each isolated CTA clip, right-click and apply Subtitles or Captions from the transcript text. You can fine-tune positioning, size, and style in the Inspector.
  • Use Timeline Presets or the Deliver Page to export your CTA clips in the correct aspect ratios (9:16 for Reels/TikTok, 1:1 or 16:9 for YouTube Shorts).
  • For rapid repurposing:
    • Select all CTA timelines or clips, queue them in the Deliver tab, and set platform-specific export settings (resolution, framerate, etc.).
    • Hit “Add to Render Queue” and let DaVinci render all your CTA clips in one go.

Common Issues & Fixes

  • Transcription misses CTAs: Check your audio clarity—background noise can cause missed words. Consider pre-cleaning audio with Resolve’s built-in noise reduction.
  • Hard to find keyword variations: Expand your search with synonyms or common misspellings (“sub, subscribe, subscription”).
  • Captions aren’t syncing: Double-check your trim points, and manually adjust subtitle timings if needed.
  • Clips don’t fit platform specs: Use DaVinci’s timeline resize/crop tools before exporting.
